Editor’s note: Marissa is a TMN U.S. creator currently in Madrid on a study exchange for a few months. While there, she’ll be covering concerts and cultural events across the city. This is her report from Biig Piig’s show at Sala Mon.

Being part of Teens Media Network means you don’t just hear about the world—you live it. One week you’re swapping stories with students from across the globe, and the next you’re front row at a concert in Spain, camera in hand, barely speaking the language but somehow feeling at home. That’s the gift of TMN: it turns the world into your classroom.

Madrid Nights, TMN Style

The venue was Sala Mon, though locals still affectionately called it Sala Clamores—a legendary spot that’s hosted everything from jazz to pop. Either way, the vibe was undeniable: small, intimate, the kind of room where you feel like you’re in on a secret.

Doors opened at 19:30, and by the time I got in, the crowd was already buzzing. Cristina Len, the opener, wasn’t just mixing tracks—she was setting a mood. Disco grooves, house beats, vocals that floated on top of everything. The crowd swayed and vibed along, and even as an outsider, I felt swept in. Music was the language here!

Biig Piig Takes Over

Then Biig Piig—Jessica Smyth—took the stage. She embodies what TMN is all about: Irish-born, raised between Spain and London, writing songs that cross borders as naturally as she does. Her modern pop blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and funk into something that refuses to sit neatly in a box.

She opened with 4AM, pulling us in instantly. Sunny and Favourite Girl had the whole room clapping and shouting. Then she cranked things up with Switch and Feels Right, the bass and drums rattling the walls. At one point, her sax player tore into a solo while she danced alongside him, and the whole crowd roared back.

Through My Lens

From the front row, I saw it all—the smoke, the strobes, her face breaking into a smile mid-song, the bassist lost in rhythm, strangers pressed together, hands in the air.

It was raw. Alive. Unforgettable.

And it reminded me why TMN matters: crossing borders, building connections, finding yourself in places you never expected but realizing you belong anyway. Even without the language, I understood—because music doesn’t need translation.

That night in Madrid wasn’t just a concert. It was proof that TMN isn’t theory, it’s lived experience. It’s showing up in a foreign country not knowing the language, but being welcomed into its culture. It’s realizing the world was never truly divided—it’s already connected, and TMN is the bridge.
