In 2021 my parents finally set me free and sent me to my first concert alone: Turnstile, Snail Mail, and JPEGMAFIA at The Anthem concert hall in Washington, DC. Turnstile was on a legendary run after releasing Glow On, but it was Snail Mail who blew me away. Having only ever listened to Pristine, I was amazed by the versatility and emotion in her music. Five years later, I’m equally in awe.

BROOKLYN, NY. By Micah Bierman

As I walked off the Q train and onto the grass of Prospect Park, I couldn’t help but feel a warm sense of community. Just after grabbing my press pass, I walked through the gates and saw families and friends playing frisbee on the field, guitars in hand, taking in the moment for all that they could. This was by far the biggest moment of my career. Not only was this the largest venue and band I had shot, but it meant something personal.

I had just finished the first week of four living by myself at NYU. This would be my longest time away from home. Music had been one of the few constants throughout this whole experience, reminding me to remain calm and confident. This moment just felt right; the first artist I saw alone was the very one I would shortly photograph alone in New York. It felt like a homecoming.
