One more year, Rough Trade teamed up with Rockefeller Center to bring indie music to the heart of New York City.

Since Rough Trade moved its stores from Brooklyn to Manhattan, this collaboration has taken shape in a way that still feels unexpected. Indie music at Rockefeller Center is not something you naturally associate with the space. It is a place linked to ice skating, the Christmas tree, and heavy tourist traffic. Putting a full day of indie performances there shifts that context. The contrast works. The flow of people, the open setting, and the constant movement give the event a different kind of energy. It feels active and accessible.

What we saw AT iDIEPLAZA 2026

FRIKO

Friko is a Chicago based band working within indie rock with touches of orchestral and experimental structure. Their set builds around dynamic shifts, moving from quieter sections into louder, more layered moments. There is a focus on composition, not just repetition.

WINTER

Winter is a project led by Samira Winter, originally from Brazil and now based in Los Angeles. The sound sits between dream pop and indie rock, with soft vocals and textured guitars. The set leans into atmosphere without losing structure.

MOMMA

Momma is a Brooklyn based band rooted in indie rock with strong influence from 90s alternative. Their songs rely on guitar driven arrangements and direct vocal delivery. The live set feels tight and consistent, without overproduction.

HOTLINE TNT

Hotline TNT is a New York based band working within shoegaze and indie rock. The sound is built around dense guitar layers and repetition. The live set leans on volume and texture rather than sharp changes.

INCENDIARY

Incendiary is a hardcore band from Long Island. Their set was the most intense of the day, with faster tempos and a direct response from the crowd. The shift in energy compared to the rest of the lineup was immediate.

SUPERCHUNK

Superchunk, formed in North Carolina in the late 80s, continues to operate within a fast, guitar driven indie rock format. Their set carries the energy of earlier records without feeling nostalgic. It is direct, loud, and consistent with their long standing sound.

The event works because it places independent music in a space that usually does not host it. The setting changes the way people encounter the performances. It brings the scene into open circulation, right in the middle of the city.
