A Distinct Identity in Electronic Music with Primavera Sound

LEER EN ESPAÑOL

On November 15th, Parc del Fòrum hosted an electronic music event unlike any other. Peggy Gou led her first major open-air show in Barcelona outside the traditional festival format, with Primavera Sound as promoters under their electronic line, Primavera Bits, and in collaboration with Offweek Festival and Nitsa Club. From 6 p.m. until the early hours of the morning, the crowd experienced a non-stop marathon of electronic music that ended with a vibrant closure at 3 a.m. — a total of nine hours of fully charged energy.

Kim Min-ji, better known as Peggy Gou, is a South Korean DJ and producer who, at 34, is already a consolidated figure in the global scene. Her sets and productions have crossed borders, and her style blends house, techno, and hypnotic grooves that instantly pull listeners in. Her influences? A deep nostalgia for the 90s, rooted in groove and memory, capable of transporting her audience to their most cherished internal moments.

Gou’s milestones speak for themselves: she founded her own label, Gudu Records, in 2019, giving her even more creative freedom and helping her build a distinctly personal identity — not just as a guest artist, but as the headliner of her own events. She was also the first Korean DJ to perform at Berlin’s legendary Berghain, and beyond music, she dedicates part of her time to one of her other major passions: fashion. She owns her own clothing brand, Kirin, and frequently shares her textile projects across her social platforms. It’s no surprise, then, that she chose to take on her first major open-air event as yet another creative territory to conquer.

But the lineup was not built around Peggy Gou alone. She was joined by three international artists with very different profiles — Verushka, Job Jobse, and Dixon — crafting a rich sonic palette throughout the night. Their German, Dutch, and Venezuelan backgrounds shaped deeply personal sets, bringing deep house, 90s trance, disco, acid, and techno to the stage, with the clear goal of keeping the crowd moving.

For her performance, Peggy Gou delivered a set filled with the intensity of club-style electronic music, including her biggest hits like “(It Goes Like) Nanana” and “Starry Night.” All this unfolded under the raw, unmistakable cold of November at Parc del Fòrum — a cold that was quickly replaced by the collective warmth generated by rhythm and melody. It created that unique sensation where the outside temperature no longer matters because the dance floor becomes its own climate.

Peggy Gou’s night at Parc del Fòrum was more than a success. It wasn’t just her first major open-air event in Barcelona — it was proof of her ability to design a sonic experience that blends community, emotion, and power. The audience responded with full enthusiasm to a lineup that enriched the proposal in every direction. Her next visit to Barcelona is already highly anticipated ahead of the next edition of Primavera Sound.

Ultimately, the night served as a reminder of why Peggy Gou is not just another DJ, but an artist with ambition, vision, and the drive to reshape the landscape of electronic music — always, inevitably, through dance.
