TMN at Sitges Film Festival 2025 – Exploring the Fantastic in Our Second Year

Every October, the Mediterranean town of Sitges becomes far more than a seaside destination. For eleven days it turns into the beating heart of fantastic cinema, a place where horror, fantasy, and science fiction collide on the big screen and in the streets. TMN is there not only to witness it, but to tell its story through the eyes of a new generation.

The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia has earned that reputation since 1968, establishing itself as the most important event dedicated to horror, fantasy, science fiction, and boundary-breaking genre storytelling. Directors and actors from across the globe converge here not only to celebrate film but to experiment, provoke, and reinvent. For TMN, being present at Sitges is more than an opportunity—it is a statement of purpose.

Highlights of the 2025 Edition

The 58th edition of the festival, running from October 9 to 19, 2025, promises to be unforgettable. The opening night belongs to Alpha, the latest work from French filmmaker Julia Ducournau, a dystopian story that marks only the third time in the festival’s history that a woman has directed the inaugural film. Ten days later, the closing slot will be filled by The Long Walk, bringing the festival full circle with a tale that explores memory, loss, and the supernatural.

Between those two bookends, Sitges 2025 pays homage to names that have defined contemporary cinema—Guillermo del Toro, Yorgos Lanthimos, Park Chan-wook, and Carmen Maura—while also creating space for encounters with living legends. Terry Gilliam, Benedict Cumberbatch, Julia Ducournau, and Maura herself are among those who will participate in sessions that combine press dialogue with direct exchanges with the public. The festival also introduces the Josefina Molina Award, a new prize for the best female-written fantastic screenplay, reinforcing Sitges’ commitment to emerging voices. And of course, the streets will once again be transformed by the iconic Zombie Walk on October 11, where thousands take part in the most surreal parade of the year.

TMN at Sitges — Year Two

For TMN, this year’s Sitges coverage carries special meaning. It is our second year at the festival, and the scale of our participation has grown. A team of five young creators, guided by one mentor, is immersed in the intensity of the festival from morning screenings to late-night conversations. For them, Sitges is not simply a backdrop; it is a classroom without walls, where journalism and creativity are tested in real time. Attending premieres, writing reviews under tight deadlines, conducting interviews with filmmakers, capturing audience reactions, and producing video content that resonates beyond the festival—all of this is part of their learning experience. Each task is a step toward professional growth, and each story they tell is both a contribution to our audience and a milestone in their own journey.

Watch the Playlist

Our work at Sitges is also about memory and continuity. Just as last year’s playlist on our YouTube channel became an archive of TMN’s first steps at the festival, this year we launch a new dedicated playlist where all of our 2025 coverage will be collected. It will include introductions, interviews, reviews, and behind-the-scenes moments, forming a living record of how young creators experience one of the most demanding cultural stages in the world.

Why Sitges Matters to TMN

Sitges matters to TMN because it represents the intersection of culture and education. Covering this festival is not about entertainment alone; it is about giving young people the tools to participate in the cultural conversation with rigor and creativity. It shows them that they have a place at the table, that their perspectives matter, and that the work they produce can stand alongside established media. It is this vision—education through immersion, training through practice—that defines TMN’s presence here.

Acknowledgments

We would not be able to realize this vision without support. Our deepest thanks go to Colectivo Piloto, our main sponsor, and to the Sitges Film Festival itself for believing in our educational mission and opening the door to young voices. Together, we make it possible for the next generation of storytellers to find their voice on one of the most inspiring stages of world cinema.

Every article, every video, and every view is more than content—it is an opportunity. And in Sitges 2025, opportunity is everywhere.
