3L3D3P’s music and visual world are built around refusing predictable rules. In this conversation, Marina Thompson discusses the experiences that led her to create her own project after years of playing bass and writing with other bands. She explains how rejection from those projects made her question her own ideas, and how finding a more open and supportive creative community gave her the space to explore the music she had always wanted to make.

Recorded during Primavera Pro Barcelona 2026, this conversation, conducted by TMN founder Pablo Herrera, explores Marina’s relationship with individuality, experimentation, and artistic freedom. 3L3D3P describes her project as an extension of herself: a space where different emotions, images, sounds, and identities can exist together without having to fit into a fixed category. She reflects on the pressure artists face to follow established formulas and explains why she wants to create a new experience for people who feel disconnected from predictable music and imagery.

Marina also talks about the ideas behind her lyrics. Some begin with a specific emotion or confrontation with the rules imposed by the world, while others remain in her notes for years before finding their place in a song. She discusses writing as a direct and intuitive process, allowing feelings to surface without overexplaining them. For her, music should create a spark and make people feel something, even when that feeling is uncomfortable, disturbing, or difficult to define.

The conversation moves through Marina’s belief that art and love are the central meanings of life, as well as the influence of video games on her music, fashion, and visual language. She explains how role-playing games, especially Final Fantasy, shaped the way she understands the world, and how she builds mood boards from video game imagery, Japanese street fashion, old magazines, Renaissance art, political figures, books, and everyday encounters. Instead of controlling every detail, she allows the subconscious to connect those references and reveal the world she is creating.

Marina concludes by discussing confidence, artistic fate, and the need to continue making work even when other people do not understand the vision. Her message to emerging artists is direct: if you feel that you are supposed to make art, you have to make it. Waiting for permission or perfect conditions can lead to greater regret than taking the risk. As she puts it, if you want to change the world, do your art.
