SUNDAY (1994): YOU CAN START A BAND WHEN YOU’RE 94

Sunday (1994) speaks about the uncertainty behind releasing their first EP, the confidence they found through experience and the songwriting process that brought the band together. Recorded at Austin City Limits 2026, this conversation with TMN founder Pablo Herrera features singer Paige Turner, guitarist Lee and drummer Puma.

Paige explains why she initially hesitated to put the music out after previous experiences in bands. Once the EP, artwork and videos were ready, the group cold emailed managers, agents and other industry contacts. Encouraging responses helped them take the next step. They talk openly about the possibility of failure and why putting your work into the world requires accepting that risk.

The band also explains how songs develop through shared lyric writing, titles saved on their phones and phrases overheard in public. Lee writes the music at home before bringing it to Puma. While the instrumental arrangements often come through instinct, the lyrics receive close attention and repeated revisions.

Confidence and age are another part of the conversation. Paige discusses the value of having time to understand herself before starting this project. The band challenges the idea that artists have to begin young, arguing that there is no age limit on making music or starting a band.

Sunday (1994) also talk about playing one of their first major American festivals, their surprise at the audience showing up despite the rain and their ambition to headline the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. With their first album still in development at the time of the interview, they were already considering a heavier, darker sound for the second.
