How Marissa Got Her First Big Break in Music Photography
“I really felt like I belonged there.”
That’s how Marissa Carper describes her first major assignment as a music photographer — covering the DC Jazz Festival, one of the most important music events in Washington, D.C.
Just a few months earlier, she had no idea where to start.
“There’s not really a how-to guide or a way to get started,” she says. “Music photography is really hard to get into.”
That’s where TMN came in.
Over the last six months, Marissa has been an active part of the Teens Media Network — collaborating with other young creatives, learning from mentors, and building a path into a career that often feels locked to outsiders. You can reas more about Marissa expereince with TMN in the following blog post.
One of the most important parts for her?
Community.
“This industry is very networking-based. Being able to connect with people, support each other, and learn from other creatives who are passionate about the same thing — it’s really powerful.””
Marissa’s TMN experience didn’t just open doors — it gave her the confidence to walk through them. She was mentored every step of the way. She wasn’t alone. And she didn’t just get access — she found her place.
