Radio Free Alice just announced their new EP, Empty Words, dropping everywhere August 20—and that’s not all. With two sold-out nights in NYC behind them and a major performance lined up at Shaky Knees, the band is also hitting the road for their first-ever headline North American tour. It’s a huge moment for the Melbourne-based group, one that feels like a natural next step in their fast-growing momentum.
Call it post-punk if you want, but there’s something wilder in their sound—something messier, more immediate. Laneway punk? Something else entirely new? Whatever you call it, it’s young, it’s restless, and it refuses to be boxed in. Music isn’t just about style—it’s about that strange tension between impermanence and permanence, about capturing something fleeting and making it last. So what is RFA really trying to say? I got the chance to ask them about their inspirations during their showcases at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX (check out the video below), and honestly, I wasn’t surprised why I love them so much—everything they named mirrored what I grew up listening to.
I still remember their performance at SXSW—it was the kind of set that sticks with you: raw, electric, and impossible to ignore. RFA took the stage at the Australia Sounds Like showcase at the Creek and the Cave and completely owned the room.

Their set in Austin was pure electricity—shredding riffs, pounding rhythms, and a vocal delivery that didn’t just demand attention but dragged you into it. When they played I Gotta (Fall in Love) that was it. That track hit hard, balancing urgency with melody, rawness with something strangely refined. The whole thing was impossible to look away from.
Back when we chatted in Austin, I remember them telling me they were finalizing their new album. We got a taste of it with the single Empty Words—a raw performance at SXSW you can watch here—and now, with the recent release of Toyota Camry, you can hear what’s really coming. Judge for yourself. There’s a clear progression in RFA’s sound, but not necessarily a full evolution. To me, that’s a good sign!
Don’t forget—Empty Words drops August 20, and their first-ever headline North American tour is already underway. Learn all about the tour dates and grab your tickets now to catch their energy live here.
