Headlining the Taiwan Beats Showcase was Sorry Youth, the influential Taiwanese alternative rock trio formed by guitarist Weni, bassist Giang Giang, and drummer Chung Han. Known for writing all of their songs in the native Taiwanese language, the band has developed a distinctive sound grounded in the raw spirit of live rock performance. Since the release of their debut album Seafood in 2012, Sorry Youth has emerged as one of the most important creative forces within Taiwan’s indie scene. Their 2017 album Brothers Shouldn’t Live Without Dreams earned both a Golden Melody Award and a Golden Indie Music Award, while their 2021 release Bad Times, Good Times raised over 100,000 USD through fan support and later won Best Rock Album at the Golden Indie Music Awards. Regular performers across Asia and international festival circuits, the band continues to shape the evolving narrative of Taiwanese rock music on the global stage.

The showcase lineup also featured introspective rapper someshiit, whose bedroom rap aesthetic was presented through an expanded live band format, folktronica duo Our Shame blending acoustic textures with electronic production, and alternative rock group Modern Cinema Master, whose sound draws from post punk and folk inflected hard rock traditions. Representing Taiwan’s heavier sonic spectrum, metal act Flesh Juicer delivered a ritual driven performance approach, while vocalist and multidisciplinary performer Pei Yu Hung explored the intersection of pop songwriting, theatre, and contemporary performance art.

Beyond the evening concerts, the Taiwan Beats program included a daytime industry exchange featuring artist pitching sessions and structured networking opportunities designed to foster international collaboration. Supported by Taiwan’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID), the long running initiative continues to function as a strategic platform positioning Taiwanese artists within global touring and music business ecosystems.

The project reflects Taiwan’s sustained investment in cultural diplomacy through music export, presenting a cross disciplinary artistic identity that moves fluidly between tradition, innovation, and international cultural exchange.
