In this episode of TMN Creative Thinking, Emil Cinto reflects on his experience covering the Big Picture Learning Big Bang Conference as a creator with Teens Media Network.

Over three days, he worked alongside Hasi Kapali and TMN mentors, documenting the conference through photography and video, and doing interviews while learning how to become more comfortable working around people and capturing moments as they happened.

Throughout the conversation, Emil talks about how his confidence developed through practice. On the first day, he was nervous about getting close to people with the camera and often recorded from a distance. As the conference progressed, he became more comfortable experimenting with framing, finding better angles and approaching situations differently.

He also reflects on meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds, and how those encounters expanded his perspective on the ways people think, communicate and experience the world. For Emil, leaving his usual environment was initially nerve-racking, but gradually became part of the learning process.

The conversation also explores mentorship and intergenerational learning. Emil describes the value of mentors who push young people toward where they want to go rather than forcing them in a predetermined direction, and how working with people with different experiences gave everyone something to contribute and learn from.

His advice to other young people is simple: when an opportunity appears, say yes. If the answer is no, try again. For Emil, confidence did not come before the experience. It developed while taking risks, trying unfamiliar things and improving along the way.
