How Do We Rethink Education?

In this episode of TMN Creative Thinking, Andrew Frishman, co-CEO of ‪Big Picture Learning, speaks with young creators Hasi Kapali and Emil Cinto about rethinking education, discovering personal interests, creativity and the role of artificial intelligence in learning.

Throughout the conversation, Andrew discusses why traditional education often fails to give young people opportunities to explore their interests and passions. He explains the importance of creating learning experiences beyond the classroom, building relationships with mentors and giving young people a meaningful role in shaping their own education.

Andrew also reflects on his personal journey and how some of his most valuable learning experiences happened outside of school. From interning at an aquarium to working with mentors in his community, he shares how these opportunities influenced his understanding of education and his professional path.

The conversation explores the relationship between artificial intelligence, creativity and human collaboration. Andrew discusses why the ability to develop ideas with others remains fundamentally human, how AI differs from human creativity and why education should encourage young people to challenge existing systems rather than simply adapt to them.

He also shares his perspective on creating change within local communities and why educational success should be measured by the opportunities people discover over the course of their lives, not just their immediate academic achievements.

The interview was conducted by TMN creators and Big Picture Learning Fellows Hasi Kapali and Emil Cinto during the Big Picture Learning Big Bang Conference 2026 in Dallas, Texas.
