In this episode of TMN Creative Thinking, Marcel Anderson, a recent graduate of The Met High School in Providence, Rhode Island, speaks with TMN creators Hasi Kapali and Emil Cinto about creativity, personal identity, mentorship and finding a meaningful career path.

Throughout the conversation, Marcel discusses how traveling and experiencing different cultures have influenced his creativity and the way he relates to other people. He explains why young people need opportunities to experiment, make mistakes and learn from failure rather than feeling pressured to meet expectations.

Marcel also shares his interests in sports photography, poetry, music and podcasting, reflecting on the challenges of self-doubt and trying to meet other people's standards. He discusses how his relationships with mentors and his faith helped him develop a stronger sense of identity and confidence.

The conversation explores the importance of authentic relationships between young people and adults. Marcel explains why breaking down traditional hierarchies in education can encourage creativity, curiosity and collaboration between generations.

As he prepares to attend St. John's University in New York City, Marcel reflects on choosing a career based on personal interests and service to others rather than financial expectations alone. He also discusses the influence of artificial intelligence on career choices and why finding meaningful work matters to him.

The interview was conducted by TMN creators and Big Picture Learning Fellows Hasi Kapali and Emil Cinto during the Big Picture Learning Big Bang Conference 2026 in Dallas, Texas.
